Help us congratulate Telecom Maintenance Senior Foreman Brent Garren, who recently placed top ten overall at the International Cable-Tec Games against other technicians from around the nation.
This event was sponsored by the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE).
The Games are designed to showcase the talents and tech skills of local field employees. The best cable technicians were selected to participate during months of competition among SCTE chapters across the United States and Canada.
Brent represented Conway Corp and the Razorback Chapter in the local games by placing 1st overall in the Cable-Tec Games in the state of Arkansas earlier this year, securing his spot in the International Cable-Tec Games.
“I am extremely proud of the energy and commitment Brent put into this competition,” Telecommunication Systems Manager Tommy Nolen said. “It is a direct reflection of his commitment to improving his skill sets as a technician and to serving our customers well. Placing 10th overall is an example of the dedication and talent Brent brings to the table.”
“Brent is an outstanding technician and that translates to an outstanding customer experience,” Conway Corp CEO Bret Carroll said. “I appreciate his commitment to his craft and the way he represented us at the International Cable-Tec Games. I am not at all surprised with his success.”
This year, the International Cable-Tec Games were held in Atlanta, GA. Contestants competed for gold, silver and bronze awards in seven categories: cable splicing, meter reading, cable jeopardy, OTDR, fiber splicing, drop connection and MTDR. The Games have been an annual SCTE tradition since 1991. The medallions awarded in the Games are symbolic of the training that creates winners in the workplace.
“SCTE recognizes the profound challenge of equipping our workforce with the skills to innovate and manage complex broadband infrastructures,” SCTE President and CEO Maria Popo said. “We must continue to create a broad network of skilled technical professionals and the Games are one way we pause to celebrate our workforce.”
SCTE is a non-profit professional association for the advancement of technology, standards and workforce education related to cable telecommunications engineering. They are committed to higher training, education and accelerated networking opportunities across the industry.
Congratulations, Brent!
