At Conway Corp, we are proud to highlight the talented and dedicated women who are making an impact in the utility industry. Today, we celebrate Alli Whitener, who works in Engineering & Planning, bringing her passion for data, analytics, and community service to the field.
Alli’s journey to engineering and planning was shaped by her love for numbers, spreadsheets, and problem-solving. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Computer Information Systems and Analytics from the University of Central Arkansas, but it wasn’t until she took business courses in college that she truly found her calling.
“This job allows me to use my technical skills while also helping my community,” Alli shared. “A lot of analysts work in sales and marketing, trying to influence people’s behavior or spending habits. But here, I get to ensure that people have power, clean water, and essential services—things that truly matter.”
For Alli, the most rewarding part of her job is seeing how her skills contribute to real, positive changes in the community. Every analysis, every project, and every decision made behind the scenes helps strengthen infrastructure and improve lives.
Alli believes that celebrating Women’s History Month in STEM fields is crucial—not just to honor women in science, technology, engineering, and math but also to recognize the pioneers who weren’t always given the credit they deserved.
“Women like Marie Curie, Katherine Johnson, and Dorothy Vaughan made groundbreaking contributions to their industries, despite the obstacles they faced,” she said. “We owe it to them to continue breaking barriers and making space for more women in STEM.”
When asked about a woman who inspires her, Alli immediately pointed to Dorothy Vaughan, a mathematician and human-computer at NASA who taught herself and others to program when machine computers began replacing manual calculations.
“She saw change coming and took it upon herself to adapt, learn, and uplift the women around her,” Alli said. “That kind of initiative, leadership, and resilience is something I admire and strive for in my own career.”
The role of women in the engineering and utility industries is evolving, and Alli is excited to see more women taking on leadership and technical roles.
“As we move forward, I see more opportunities, more representation, and more innovation driven by diverse perspectives,” she said. “Women belong in this industry, and we have so much to contribute.”
We are proud to celebrate Alli and all the incredible women who make Conway Corp stronger every day.
