Conway Corp is proud to celebrate Women’s History Month by highlighting the talented and hardworking women who help power our community. Today, we shine a spotlight on Kendra, our cashier supervisor, whose steady leadership and commitment to accuracy help ensure every customer interaction is handled with care.
Kendra’s career path wasn’t a straight line. Early in college, she realized secondary education wasn’t the direction she wanted to pursue, so she returned to Arkansas to begin building her life and career.
“I worked a variety of jobs early on, including Walmart, a pharmacy during a short-lived move to Washington State, Acxiom and managing a storage facility in Conway,” she said.
After three children and a couple of her husband’s deployments, Kendra knew she was ready for a new chapter. She accepted a position at Bank of America, where she gained valuable experience and strengthened her financial skill set. In 2009, a friend who worked at Conway Corp encouraged her to apply for an open cashier position.
“I quickly said yes when the job was offered,” she said.
Her banking background gave her a strong foundation in payment processing and customer service, and over time, she was given the opportunity to lead the cashier team. She has been part of the Conway Corp family since December 2009.
“It’s the people and the shared commitment to doing things the right way that have made it meaningful for me,” she said.
Kendra takes pride in doing her work well and ensuring that the details are handled correctly.
“In payment processing, accuracy matters,” she said. “Customers trust us to apply their payments correctly and follow through without cutting corners.”
That attention to detail extends beyond transactions.
“It’s important to me that we don’t just process transactions, but that we understand what we’re doing and why it matters,” she said. “When my team grows in confidence, pays attention to the small things, and takes ownership of their role in serving our customers, that’s something I value greatly. Trust is built in the details.”
Success in a fast-paced, customer-facing financial role requires more than speed.
“Success requires attention to detail, genuine care for the customer, and solid decision-making skills,” Kendra said. “It also depends on consistency, ownership of your work, and discipline in the small things.”
She emphasizes the importance of staying steady under pressure and adapting when situations change, especially in a role where accuracy and customer trust are directly connected. Balancing efficiency with meaningful customer interactions starts with being fully present.
“Whether a customer is in the drive-thru or standing in the lobby, we want them to know we are paying attention to their needs while also respecting their time,” she said.
That presence requires careful listening.
“A customer may not directly say, ‘I need help with this,’ but something as simple as ‘I didn’t get my invoice this month’ should shift our mindset to how we can assist and resolve the issue,” she said. “Other customers may simply need a quick transaction, where a kind welcome and a sincere thank you are what matter most.”
For Kendra, leadership is measured not just by daily performance, but by long-term growth.
“One of the most rewarding milestones in my career has been seeing team members I helped hire and train move on to other positions within Conway Corp and excel,” she said. “When introducing new hires to other teams, I take pride in saying, ‘They started as a cashier.’ It shows that growth is possible.”
Helping employees develop is something she takes seriously.
“Conway Corp provides strong training and skill-building opportunities for our employees, and I encourage my team to take advantage of those resources,” she said. “My role is helping them take what’s offered and apply it in their daily work so it becomes part of how they do their job.”
Growth, she believes, requires intention.
“It takes a willingness to ask questions, learn from mistakes, and keep improving,” she said. “At the end of the day, development is something they have to take ownership of for themselves.”
Over the years, Kendra has also learned that confidence and leadership are meant to be shared.
“Talking about both successes and mistakes creates opportunities for others to learn and grow,” she said. “Leadership is about being willing to pass along what you’ve learned so someone else can build on it.”
When asked about women who have inspired her, Kendra reflects first on her mother.
“Growing up, I saw firsthand how hard it was for her to raise us as a single mom and try to make it financially and mentally, all while making sure we never questioned that we were loved,” she said. “She taught us that our strength comes from God, showed us how to keep going through tough seasons, and reminded us that it was still okay to laugh and enjoy life along the way.”
In her professional life, she also credits Edie Turner as a significant influence.
“She taught me to slow down, pause and think through an issue from all angles before deciding how to move forward,” Kendra said. “She also taught me that success in leadership isn’t found in being a boss, but in being someone others can trust and learn from.”
Kendra’s story is a testament to the power of resilience, growth and steady leadership. We are grateful for her contributions to Conway Corp and proud to celebrate her achievements during Women’s History Month.
