Conway Corp is proud to celebrate Women’s History Month by highlighting the talented and hardworking women who help power our community. Today, we shine a spotlight on Laura, one of our accountants, whose dedication and attention to detail help keep Conway Corp running smoothly behind the scenes.
Laura began her journey at Conway Corp shortly after graduating from the University of Central Arkansas. With a degree in marketing and computer information systems, she was eager to begin her career with a company that offered stability and opportunity for growth.
“I started at Conway Corp as a cashier right after I graduated from UCA,” she said. “I had previously worked as a teller at a local bank and wanted to get my foot in the door at a good company with a chance for growth.”
That opportunity came when an entry-level accounting position opened up.
“I was blessed to have a boss who believed in my abilities and gave me a chance,” Laura said. “I learned quickly that I was pretty good with numbers and realized I had finally found my fit.”
Over time, Laura discovered a deeper sense of confidence in her work.
“I don’t know that there is one specific thing, but over time I have learned that there is a comfort in knowing your job, knowing you’re good at what you do and being confident in that,” she said. “It really helps that I have great co-workers that I can depend on as well.”
Today, Laura’s responsibilities include accounts payable, payroll, and sales and use tax, essential functions that keep the organization operating efficiently and responsibly.
“Those are things that are required in all businesses to keep everything going,” she said. “We must be able to pay our bills, remit our taxes and pay our employees. When we do those things correctly and on time, we build confidence and trust within our company and community.”
While much of her work takes place behind the scenes, its impact is far-reaching. Accuracy, timeliness and accountability are the backbone of strong financial operations. Laura takes pride in playing a role in that foundation.
She was recently promoted, an accomplishment she considers a proud milestone.
“I was recently promoted to Accountant, and that is something I’m pretty proud of,” she said. “I believe that I’m an asset to my co-workers and it’s always nice to feel like you can make a difference.”
Laura believes success in her field requires both technical skill and strong collaboration.
“The ability to listen and learn are always important,” she said. “We have to be able to work with one another to have a positive impact. It’s also very helpful to have good Excel spreadsheet skills and know how to build a Smartlist to pull information that is needed by others.”
Throughout her career, Laura has been fortunate to work alongside strong female colleagues.
“I’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazing women!” she said.
She encourages other women pursuing their goals to stay curious and persistent.
“Don’t be afraid to ask questions and never give up,” she said.
Laura also believes workplace culture plays a vital role in supporting women’s success.
“Women need a place where they feel comfortable and where their voices are heard,” she said. “A culture of listening, understanding and learning is so vital to the general culture of any workplace.”
For Laura, appreciation and belonging matter deeply.
“We are all a piece of the puzzle,” she said. “And it’s important for all of us to feel appreciated. Everyone wants to feel like their job matters and makes a difference.”
When asked about a woman who has inspired her, Laura’s answer is immediate.
“My mother,” she said. “She is the most dedicated, hardworking, loving and caring person I have ever known. She always puts everyone else first and does it with grace. I strive every day to be someone that she can be proud of.”
Laura’s story is a testament to the power of growth, confidence and perseverance. We are grateful for her contributions to Conway Corp and proud to celebrate her achievements during Women’s History Month.
