Conway Corp is proud to celebrate Women’s History Month by highlighting the talented and hardworking women who help power our community. Today, we shine a spotlight on Lindsey, our Engineering Project Coordinator and Data Specialist, whose curiosity and commitment to growth help support the success of Conway Corp’s engineering team.
Lindsey’s path into engineering wasn’t a traditional one. After graduating from the University of Central Arkansas with a degree in sociology, she didn’t expect her career to lead her into a technical field.
“I graduated from UCA with a Sociology degree and I did not think it would lead me to a career in engineering,” she said.
After spending a few years away from Conway and working at a bank, Lindsey eventually made her way back home and joined Conway Corp as a cashier. When an opportunity opened in the engineering department, she saw it as a chance to try something new.
“When a position opened in the Engineering department, I saw it as an opportunity to expand my horizons in a field that I have always been interested in,” she said. “It has challenged me to grow and learn in so many ways.”
That growth didn’t come without challenges. One of the most significant has been learning to find and use her voice in a professional setting.
“It can be difficult to speak up when you are younger or less experienced, but your perspective is still valuable, even if you are still learning,” Lindsey said. “Professional growth has meant building confidence in myself and realizing it’s okay to take up space and contribute.”
Her experience reflects a broader importance within technical fields — the value of representation.
“Representation matters in all fields, but especially technical ones that have traditionally been male-dominated,” she said. “Different perspectives and experiences create stronger ideas. Progress happens when a variety of voices are included in the conversation.”
Lindsey encourages other women who may be interested in engineering, technology or data-focused roles to embrace curiosity and trust their abilities.
“Be curious and be confident in your abilities,” she said. “Ask lots of questions and seek out people who have the answers. Don’t be afraid to explore something new just because you haven’t done anything like it before.”
She emphasizes that success in technical roles doesn’t require knowing everything from the start.
“You may feel like you need to know everything to work in a technical field, but you don’t,” Lindsey said. “You just need a willingness to learn.”
Throughout her journey, Lindsey has been supported by mentors who have helped shape her growth, especially within the engineering department.
“Leslie Guffey has encouraged me tremendously throughout my time in the engineering department,” she said. “I have learned more from her in the last two and a half years than I have from anyone else in my career. Her willingness to share knowledge has had a huge impact on my professional growth.”
As a new mother, Lindsey has also gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of workplace support.
“Companies can make a meaningful difference by providing resources and flexibility for working parents, so women do not feel like they must choose between having a family or having a career,” she said. “I feel very fortunate to work in an environment where I have had supportive coworkers and access to maternity leave, but not everyone has that opportunity.”
When asked about a woman who has inspired her, Lindsey points to someone who has influenced her both personally and professionally, her mother.
“My mother, Paula McKee,” she said. “She has always been a personal hero of mine because of her strength, wisdom and ability to be incredibly kind to everyone she meets.”
Her mother’s encouragement has had a lasting impact.
“She has always encouraged me to pursue my interests and believed I could do whatever I set my mind to,” Lindsey said. “It has shaped me into the woman I am today.”
Lindsey’s story is a testament to the power of curiosity, confidence and continuous learning. We are grateful for her contributions to Conway Corp and proud to celebrate her achievements during Women’s History Month.
