What should I do if I think I have a water leak?
If you suspect a water leak, immediately shut off the water supply at the main valve, then inspect for the leak and document any damage. Contact a plumber for a professional assessment and repair.

Look for Visible Signs of a Leak

  • Look for unexplained puddles of water near appliances, sinks or toilets.

Check Your Water Meter

  • Turn off all faucets and water-using appliances.
  • Locate your water meter (usually outside near the curb).
  • Note the reading and wait for 1-2 hours without using water.
  • If the reading has changed, you likely have a leak.

Listen for Unusual Sounds

  • A hissing or dripping sound behind walls or under floors can indicate a hidden leak.

Inspect Water Fixtures and Appliances

  • Look for drips under sinks, behind toilets and around water heaters, washing machines and dishwashers.
  • Check hose connections for leaks.

Perform a Toilet Leak Test

  • Add food coloring to the toilet tank and wait 10-15 minutes.
  • If color appears in the bowl, there’s a leak in the toilet flapper or seal.

Check Your Water Bill

  • A sudden, unexplained increase in your bill can indicate a hidden leak.

Investigate Outdoors

  • Look for soggy patches in the yard, especially if it hasn’t rained.
  • Check your hose bibs and irrigation system for leaks.
What is the number next to Water Consumption on my bill?

Water usage is billed in units of thousands of gallons. The number next to the water/sewer consumption represents the thousands of gallons used during the billing period. For example, a 3 indicates 3,000 gallons used.

How can I conserve water?
To conserve water, consider taking shower showers, fixing leaks promptly, using water-efficient appliances and planting drought-tolerant plants.
  • Fix Leaks: Regularly check for and fix any leaks in faucets, pipes and toilets, as even small drips can waste a significant amount of water over time.
  • Toilet Leaks: To check for a toilet leak, place a few drops of food coloring in the tank and wait. If the color appears in the bowl without flushing, you have a leak.
  • Use Water-Efficient Appliances: Install low-flow showerheads and toilets. Always run full loads in the dishwasher and laundry machine.
  • Take Shorter Showers: Reduce shower time to conserve water.
  • Turn Off the Tap: Turn off the tap when brushing teeth, shaving or washing dishes.
  • Sweep Instead of Hose: Sweep driveways, patios and sidewalks instead of using a hose.
  • Collect Rainwater: Install a rainwater collection system to use for watering plants and gardens.
  • Plant Drought-Tolerant Plants: Choose plants that require less water for your garden.
  • Mulch and Compost: Use mulch and compost to improve soil moisture retention and reduce the need for watering.
  • Water Wisely: Water your lawn and garden in the early morning or evening to minimize water loss due to evaporation.
I need to turn off the water to my home/business to make repairs. How do I do that?

If your water needs to be turned off immediately, call us at 501-450-6000. We will dispatch a technician to assist you. We understand water emergencies can happen at any time, and we have technicians available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Why do my toilets and sinks have black or pink rings or spots on them?

These stains are caused by mold and mildew spores in the air. These spores land in moist environments and form colonies that appear pink or black. They are not present in the water and are not harmful.

Regular cleaning with a disinfectant, such as diluted bleach or vinegar, can help prevent buildup. Using a bathroom exhaust fan while showering and increasing ventilation can also help reduce moisture in the air and prevent spores from settling. If the issue persists, a dehumidifier may also help.

Sewer overflowed in my house and caused damage. What should I do?

Contact Conway Corp immediately at 501-450-6000. We will dispatch a crew to investigate the problem. If cleaning or restoration work is necessary, you will need to arrange that yourself or through your insurance company. Conway Corp is only liable in cases of negligence. If the issue is due to a private sewer lateral failure, the homeowner is responsible.

My sewer line isn’t draining well or is stopped up completely. Do I call Conway Corp or a plumber?

Always call Conway Corp at 501-450-6000 first. We will check the main sewer line to ensure it is not blocked before you contact a plumber. If you call a plumber first, they may charge you even if the problem is on our main line. We provide this service 24/7 at no charge. If the issue is within your private sewer line (the pipe from your home to the main), a plumber will be required for repairs.

Will Conway Corp repair damage to my landscaping if they repaired a water leak on my property?

Conway Corp contracts with a landscape company to restore yard damage caused by our work. The contractor should contact the property owner within two to four weeks to make arrangements. Weather conditions or contractor availability may occasionally extend this timeframe. If you have questions about this service, call 501-450-6000.

What do I do if my water is discolored or has a bad smell?

First, turn on your largest cold-water faucet to full flow and let it run for 10 to 20 minutes. This will clear out the water in your service line and pull fresh water from the main line. Discoloration may be due to sediment stirred up by main repairs or system flushing, while cloudy water may result from air bubbles that dissipate after running the faucet. If the water remains discolored or has an odor, call 501-450-6000. We will dispatch a technician to check the main lines.
