At Conway Corp, we are proud to celebrate Women’s History Month by highlighting the incredible women who shape our industry and community. Today, we shine a spotlight on Chief Marketing Officer Crystal Kemp, whose passion for storytelling and community impact has guided her journey in the utility industry.
Crystal’s career path wasn’t a direct line to the utility industry, but rather a journey that blended her love for communication, marketing and community development. She began her career at the Forrest City Chamber of Commerce before moving to the Conway Chamber of Commerce, where she discovered her passion for organization and supporting economic growth.
“What made Conway Corp particularly appealing was the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the community in a more direct way,” Crystal shared. “While chamber work allowed me to support local businesses and economic development, Conway Corp literally powers our community. It has such a strong history of caring for Conway. It’s been wonderful to not only tell that story but also be part of an organization that continues to write it.”
Her background in storytelling and marketing translated seamlessly into the utility sector, where she helps communicate how essential services including electric, water, internet and more support everyday life and long-term community growth.
Like many professionals, Crystal faced challenges in her career, particularly as a woman in a male-dominated industry. However, she has learned to navigate those moments with preparation, confidence and a focus on impact.
“There have been times when I was the only woman in the room, which can be challenging,” she said. “But instead of focusing on what sets me apart, I focus on the value I bring. Building strong relationships, staying focused on what truly matters and continuing to learn have made all the difference.”
For Crystal, one of the most fulfilling aspects of her role is helping others grow. She takes pride in fostering a workplace where learning and professional development are priorities.
“Creating pathways for continuous growth has been incredibly rewarding,” she said. “When we invest in our team, we not only improve service for our customers, but we also create an environment where people feel engaged and valued. That’s something I’m proud to be part of.”
With women making up only 25 percent of the energy workforce – and even less in leadership roles – Crystal believes that recognizing and encouraging women in the industry is crucial.
“As our industry evolves, we need to tap into all available talent to stay innovative and adaptable,” she explained. “By celebrating the contributions of women past and present, we inspire the next generation and reinforce the collaboration that makes our industry thrive.”
When asked about women who have inspired her, Crystal reflected on her grandmothers, Lula Seneva Ravenscraft (Grandmother) and Lillie Belle Brown (Mama).
“Grandmother taught me the beauty of hosting, creating, and tradition – sewing, setting holiday tables and making every visit feel like home. Mama embodied quiet strength and hard work, showing me the power of resilience and legacy. As I’ve written about them over the past year, I’ve realized just how much they’ve shaped my life in ways I’m still uncovering.”
Crystal is excited to see more women stepping into leadership and technical roles across the industry. Organizations like Arkansas Women in Power are providing networking and mentorship opportunities, helping women break barriers and drive innovation.
“As more companies embrace the strengths and perspectives women bring, I believe we’ll continue to see them leading at all levels – driving change, fostering collaboration and shaping the future of our industry.”
We are proud to celebrate Crystal and all the incredible women at Conway Corp who make an impact every day.
