Overcoming adversity is never easy, but for Ashley Ferguson, resilience, determination, and a willingness to embrace change led her to a fulfilling career in technology. As a Systems Analyst II in Conway Corp’s Technology Department, Ashley’s journey is a testament to how tragedy can be transformed into purpose and how women can thrive in male-dominated fields like tech.
Before joining Conway Corp, Ashley spent her days running a hobby farm, raising animals, gardening and selling homemade jams and jellies at the Downtown Conway Farmer’s Market. But in 2017, her life took an unexpected turn, and she found herself searching for something new that would help her heal and rebuild.
That search led her to the Arkansas Coding Academy through the UCA Outreach program, where she discovered a passion for software development and problem-solving. The logic, structure and creativity of coding challenged her in ways that gave her a new sense of direction and purpose.
As a Systems Analyst II, Ashley finds fulfillment in creating software solutions that improve customer and employee experiences. Whether it’s designing web applications, streamlining workflows or solving complex problems, she thrives in an environment where she can use her skills to make a tangible difference.
“The most rewarding part of my job is analyzing challenges, thinking critically and developing software that enhances user experience,” she said. “Making an impact through technology has been incredibly fulfilling.”
Women remain underrepresented in the technology sector, but Ashley believes that visibility and inclusivity are key to change.
“Celebrating Women’s History Month in industries like ours is so important,” she said. “It highlights the contributions of women in tech while also addressing the need for greater diversity in the field. Recognizing achievements and advocating for inclusivity inspires more women and young girls to pursue careers in tech, fosters innovation through diverse perspectives and creates a more equitable, forward-thinking industry.”
Ashley’s story is proof that success in tech isn’t just about who has traditionally filled the roles—it’s about who is willing to step up, embrace challenges and bring new perspectives to the table.
When asked about the women who have inspired her, Ashley’s answer was simple: her mom.
“She built a successful life despite the challenges she faced as a child,” Ashley shared. “She never let her past define her. Her perseverance and strength motivate me to push through obstacles and strive for success, no matter the circumstances. She is a true example of how sheer will and a positive mindset can turn hardships into achievements.”
Ashley’s journey proves that it’s never too late to change paths, learn something new and break into a male-dominated field. For women considering a career in tech or any industry where they may feel outnumbered, her advice is simple:
🚀 Embrace challenges. Every problem has a solution, and your perspective brings value to the conversation.
💡 Keep learning. Technology is always evolving so stay curious, keep pushing yourself, and never stop growing.
💪 Believe in your abilities. You don’t have to have all the answers, you just need the confidence to learn, adapt, and keep moving forward.
Ashley’s story is a powerful reminder that adversity doesn’t have to define you, but how you respond can shape your future. Her success in technology, problem-solving and innovation proves that women belong in tech, and the industry is better for it.
